Happy New Year (Yes, In February)
We are almost 2 months into the new year, so naturally it’s time for me to introduce my 2026 goals.
Better late than never, right?
The end of 2025 was marked by burnout that snuck up on me. I had been holding it together until I completely missed a pediatrician appointment the week before Christmas and felt so defeated. I had successfully finished Christmas shopping, was on time to pick up Simon from daycare to head to said appointment, only to be told the appointment was the day before
I had completely entered it wrong in my calendar. To add insult to injury, I entered the rescheduled appointment incorrectly as well, and only realized after the panic of assessing some work meetings to fit in the new appointment.
Safe to say I was in no mood to begin plotting my 2026 goals at the end of last year.
But January meant time for planning and light execution, with February my official new year goal implementation. I’ve been reflecting on what I’ve already been failing and why, and if it’s a viable goal at all. Yes, essentially SMART goals but a little more real life and less performance review. My goals are organized into two areas - self care and intellect. I turn 30 this year and I am all about self actualization and rediscovering myself and I think my goals reflect that.
I want to move my body 5/7 days of the week. I use the Peloton workout plans because it takes away the stress of finding workouts. I haven’t been able to get up early before work to workout and doing so would really help ease the chaos of choosing between cooking, cleaning, or working out in the evening but alas…
In the same vein, I need to start stretching. A couple nights in January I was pretty good about stretching before bed, getting back into my nighttime skincare routine, and then listening to a book and avoiding screen time. I really need to get back into that, I was getting some of my best sleep!
I hope to also actually finish books which will be helped by this routine. I also want to partake in pop culture more than just being chronically online. I’ve already failed at this, having been too tired to watch the Grammy’s and barely catching the Winter Olympics, but I hope to watch more critically acclaimed films and lean into my love of design and music.
I just have to wade through the incessant Barney, Baby Shark, and Brown Bear first.
