Steak Frites Files: Orchard

Steak Frites at Orchard: A Rustic Yet Sophisticated Surprise

If you know me, you know I have grown to take steak seriously. I find less is more when it comes to steak, and I don’t want anything too overdone (pun absolutely intended). So when we were invited to try the new menu at Orchard, I was ready to be picky.

The Spot

Orchard sits on the far west side in Verona, just steps away from Verona High School. Previously in a shared space under a different name in Brennan’s, it boasts a generous patio with beautiful views as you enjoy your cider and plates.

The Plate

I ordered the 12 oz striploin pasture raised cattle hanger steak with hand cut fries, chimichurri compound butter, balsamic glaze, fried baby carrots tossed in equinox vinaigrette and sherry natural jus. That sounds like a lot, and it was. It was amazing. The steak was perfectly cooked to my liking (medium well) and the balsamic glaze was such a sleeper. It was sweet yet added the perfect tang to make the dish interesting. Even the carrots were enjoyable, giving a sophisticated dish a touch of rustic charm. At one point, Simon was fussing and I sent him away with Ade to enjoy my steak in peace (and I’d do it again)!

The Verdict

10/10 in addition to the individual components. If you’re looking to enjoy some drinks and want some elevated, flavorful and reasonably priced bar food, Orchard should be your next stop.
